In June 2023, the two companies commenced discussions aimed at building a medium- to long-term partnership for the supply of cylindrical automotive lithium-ion batteries, discussions which have now resulted in the signing of this agreement.

The US energy storage market saw 4236MW installed in the final quarter of 2023, an 100% increase from Q3, according to a new report. For the first time, the grid-scale segment exceeded 3GW deployed in one quarter and nearly topped 4GW, according to Wood Mackenzie and the American Clean Power Association’s (ACP) latest US Energy Storage Monitor report.

China’s output of power batteries and storage batteries saw rapid expansion in November, according to data from the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance. Last month, the output of the batteries stood at 87.7 gigawatt-hours (GWh), up 40.7 percent year on year. In the first 11 months, the output rose 41.6 percent year on year to 698.7 GWh.

China’s New Graphite Restrictions
On October 20 and in response to the widened U.S. controls, China announced a new set of export restrictions on certain graphite products. As of December 1, Chinese exporters will be required to apply for permits to ship two types of the material, including “high-purity, high-hardness and high-intensity synthetic graphite material and natural flake graphite and its products.”
